But it is the exact same problem I'm having, same sound (beeping), same hard drive model. My cat swatted my HDD off my desk and it hit my tile floor. Now when I plug it in, it makes this beeping noise. In Mac, it is completely unrecognized (even with Disk Utility). In Windows 7 SP1, the beeping stops after about 3-5min, then I hear the disks wind down (and maybe even stop). At this point, I open Disk Management, and the drive appears, but has no letter assigned, 0 capacity, and says not initialized. You can take the HDD out of the WD enclosure but you should Never open the HDD casing itself like this video, once you do, dust gets in and the data is unrecoverable. If the drive is recognized in Windows under Disk Management, then you can use the Free Program, I have had the best luck with. You will need another drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to. But once the drive starts making noise, it is probably inaccessible. At that point your only option is to send it off to the very, very expensive data recovery specialists, who open the HDD casing in a Clean Room to extract the data. Hi teddyespo, When an HDD starts making unusual noises the reason is always some sort of mechanical failure. And unfortunately this is not something you can fix at home. As the others already said, please do not open your HDD, because if dust gets in the data will be irrecoverable. You could tell if the HDD is completely gone using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics. You can download it here:, If WD DLGD does not detect the drive there is nothing you can do. In such cases the only option to get your data back is to use the services of a data recovery company.
